Beating your Competition in an Interview

It’s not often that you see your competition in an interview, perhaps you may walk past them on your way in or out of the interview, but either way you have to be able to bat them, and you can do this by improving your own interview performance.

Staying relaxed is essential and you have to presume you’re up against an experienced, calm and collective individual, otherwise you may never fit the bill. If you’ve had difficulty in the past with similar job positions in interviews, then learn from your own mistakes. The following three pieces of advice can help you beat your job competitions.

  1. Listen and respond in a chatty way, not just asking a list of prepared questions or sitting there silently.
  2. Show limited signs of nervousness that can distract your interviewer; i.e. no fiddling with your hands, kicking your feet. Instead relax and sit up straight listening carefully as they speak.
  3. Show you have done your research and speak about the company with knowledge, that way you will not need to ask straightforward non inquisitive questions.
