Writing reports
Writing the annual reports is the time of year that every teacher dreads. Having to think of 30 unique comments for your class, plus individual updates on their progress in the core subjects, is enough to leave you reaching for the merlot! If your school is particularly relaxed and allow you to use report writing software then you’ve pretty much got it covered, but should you, shock horror, dare to write two similar comments on little Johnny’s and his friend’s report then you can expect to be hauled in front of the Head Teacher the next morning. Some parents will even publish their children’s reports on social media websites to compare grades and comments. So what is the point? Is this just a pointless paper generating exercise? The best reports will be informative, give targets and make some personal reference to the child in question. It shouldn’t really matter if the comments about academic achievements are fairly generic, as in this world of target driven education, many children will have similar accomplishments and development points.
